Rugby Review

The fifth Saturday of the rugby season saw yet another good day for Berkhamsted Rugby. With the highly reputed RGS High Wycombe for opposition 8 wins from 11 matches played was a great result!

The U14s continued their impressive form with 47-5, 54-0 and 37-5 victories for the A,B & C XVs. The 14As showed just how clinical they can be with an outstanding performance to overturn the defeat they suffered as U13s earlier in the year. The 15Bs ensured their age group did not go winless with a 22-5 win, taking them to three wins from five matches. We also comfortably won both the 16A&B fixtures, 31-19 & 33-5 this squad has now won 9 of their 10 matches and the Bs are currently undefeated, a great achievement considering the strength of some of their opponents.

In the seniors the 3rd XV had their second victory in as many matches, 31-22 while the 2nds were outclassed 12-43. The 1st XV showed real character to bounce back from the disappointment of the previous week with a tense 19-17 victory. Missing three players including captain Oliver Perkins, it was important to start well to get some momentum going again and a well worked try from Alex Finnie after good set piece lead up was exactly what was needed after just 2 minutes. Unfortunately, the rest of the game proved to be a frustrating one with Berkhamsted coming up with error after error to never really take control of the game. Finding themselves 12-17 down with fifteen minutes left on the clock they showed the spirit they do have to score and Josh Barton converted from wide out to take the lead. There was relief all around at full time however we must be much more accurate if we are to trouble Felsted this weekend.

Team of the Week: U13A

Player of the Week: Dom Hide

Five teams travelled to Kimbolton this weekend for the traditional away day to the village where fireworks were invented.

The U13A team earned the accolade of ‘team of the week’ for their 14-0 victory. Roman Pirani was at his best setting a firecracker of a tempo that saw 8 goals scored in the first half. The B and C team matches were much closer with both Berkhamsted teams eventually winning by the same 2-1 score line.

The U12 matches were well contested with Berkhamsted winning at B and C team but losing the A team match. The U12C’s won 7-0 with Dominic Hide scoring a double hat trick. The U12B match was an exciting one in which Mr Pengelly’s team failed to convert chances during the match. At 3-2 the boys put pressure on themselves but the defence stood firm and eventually saw the team hold out for the win. The U12A team lost their encounter 6-1 but the score line flattered the opponents somewhat. Next week is a busy one with Ashlyns on Wednesday and Forest on Saturday. Good luck to all the boys involved.
